Home And Yard Maintenance Tips For New Build Homeowners

There’s nothing quite as exciting as moving into and buying a new home in Oklahoma, especially one that’s been newly constructed! In all the excitement, many homeowners forget to do their maintenance, but it’s essential, even for new homes, to keep on top of this! You need to make sure you’re looking after your home just as much as it looks after you and your family. We’ve compiled a checklist of tips you should keep in mind when looking to maintain your home’s glory. Here are all the home and yard maintenance tips you should follow to make sure your home is sparkling as bright as all the others in your new neighborhood in Oklahoma!

Check Your Guttering And Drains

Try to check both your drains and guttering at least once a month to make sure they are clear from any waste or debris. Even in new houses, gutters and drains can be easily blocked by food, dirt, leaves, and muck - while there won’t be blockages at the beginning of buying a new home in Oklahoma, without regular maintenance they can quickly arise. Doing this will keep your gutters and drains clear and healthy, and it will make for better use for homeowners as you won’t have to deal with irritating blockages!

Clean And Treat Your Patio And Decking

Buying a new home in Oklahoma with fancy decking or a beautiful patio is a dream for us all, but to keep the dream alive, you need to do your maintenance! It’s always advised to give your patio or decking a good clean every so often to keep it looking pristine. Using a jet wash, give your patio or decking a good clean to remove any dirt build-up. If you have decking, it’s also worth adding a coat of staining or wood protector to lock in the color and to keep the wood in good condition. This should be done once a year while jet washing can be done several times a year, whenever you feel like your decking or patio needs a clean!

Paint Touch Ups Both Inside And Out

Whether your home has paint on the interior or exterior, you will need to keep on top of it to make sure it’s looking great. Interior paint on walls is super common, however, walls can easily mark or stain, and unless you have high-quality paint, scrubbing with a wet cloth can remove or fade the paint. When you see a mark or stain, try to touch up the paintwork with some more paint of the same color and brand. For exterior paint that’s showing peeling or chipping, give it a quick clean with a jet wash and then touch up the paint job.

Care For Your Lawn

If you have a lawn, you want to keep it looking luscious and bright, especially if you’ve just moved into a lovely new neighborhood in Oklahoma. To do this, you’ll need to take care of it! You should mow, water, and fertilize your lawn every few weeks to keep it looking healthy. Make sure you’re using a lawnmower with good sharp blades for a polished look and keep the height to around 2.5 to 3.5 inches. You’ll need to deep water your lawn once a week to ensure healthy grass, however, don’t overwater as this can damage your lawn! Lastly, fertilizer will stop your lawn from becoming patchy or wilted, so try to find a suitable fertilizer for your lawn to keep it in shape.
