3 Tips for a Smooth Moving Day to Crestone Ridge

Most people dread moving day. The prospect of heavy lifting, loading and unloading boxes, and dealing with logistics can be overwhelming. Your moving experience can actually be fun, however, with the right approach. Hire a moving company to do the heavy lifting, and follow this checklist for a stress-free moving day experience.

Get Your Paperwork in Order

A few weeks before the big day, take these steps to ensure all of the administrative tasks are in order:

  • Transferring utilities. Call your utility companies and give them your move out date. If your move is local, they can simply transfer accounts on your desired date. If you’re moving from another city or state, call your new utility company and notify them of your arrival date.
  • Get copies of important documents. Before you leave the area, ask for copies of important documents, such as your medical records, school records, or vaccine reports. Store these with other important papers, such as your family’s birth certificates and social security cards.
  • Send out your change of address forms a few weeks before the move. Arrange for your mail to be delivered at your new address effective on your moving date.

Create a Special Box

Have a special, easily accessible box full of the essentials so you won’t be scrambling for them on move-in day. Add things like:

  • Toiletries
  • Towels
  • Pajamas
  • A change of clothes
  • Snacks
  • Coffee and coffeemaker
  • Real estate documents
  • Disposable utensils
  • Sheets

The Day of the Move

On your moving day, check your inventory with the movers to ensure nothing’s been left out. Plan on staying while movers load the truck. Give them a number where you can be reached in case of any unforeseen delays.

Your last steps will be to turn down the thermostat (about 15 degrees lower or higher depending on the weather) and turning off the water heater.

Once you reach your new home, check all of the appliances, faucets, and fixtures to ensure they’re in the same condition as they were at closing. Assuming everything is in order, you’re now ready to enjoy your new home!
